We will talk about what it is to fast and we will choose something simple to fast and join the parents for this day. This won’t be as extreme as what parents are doing (although all parents know their own children).
We can fast from sugary drinks for the day (additional health benefits) or fast “snacks” like chips or cookies, the preschool chip, or whatever is in your house.
When you feel like eating something, think that all flavors were created by God, and that he gave us a tongue that can taste, a nose that can smell, and eyes that can see food. Let us give thanks to Him.
In our house we talk about different ways of praying. We talk about just talking to God/Jesus. We talk about the Our Father since it is the way Jesus taught us to pray and in our house it is important that our children know it (or remember it if they already know it at 3 and 5 years old).
We also practice a variation of the test sentence in our house to “Happy and sad” where we say something that made us feel happy and something that made us feel sad and after we’ve all said our things, together we say “Thank you God for being here.” with us through it all, in Jesus name, Amen.
We will continue our discussions on different ways to pray and reinforce that through practice we have the ability to speak to God only through Jesus. Let’s talk about how we can pray through songs and for older children, we can talk about how actions are prayers too. We can make a prayer drawing without speaking in prayer is a challenge in these days and current times.
